Context & story
A public project within Bucharest Street Art Festival, focused on urban regeneration through art. The façade of a school in the Gării Cățelu neighbourhood received a tree of life drawn in thick black lines on white.
The idea grew from roots — what keeps us connected to where we come from, even when we grow up and move far away.
Requirements & distinctive elements
- Outdoor work on the façade of a school
- Black-and-white line-art language, readable for children
- Characters, symbols and traditional motifs hidden in the canopy
- A message about roots and belonging
“How far do you think we can run before our thick roots pull us strongly back?” — Ioana Iacob
Intervention
The tree fills the whole wall: the trunk opens into a canopy full of calm faces, stars, spirals and geometric motifs inspired by Romanian folk ornament.
I worked straight onto the render with markers and black paint, drawing every module by hand. The small details invite children to discover something new every time they pass by.
A quote about roots is painted on the wall too, set in a circle like a stamp.
